How to avoid pinch flats

The higher the pressure, the less likely you are to have pinch flats. Try to keep at least 40 psi in your tires.  Keep in mind that as tire pressure increases, the contact area of the tire decreases - so in most cases, you'll have less traction. Higher pressures can also make for a more harsh ride - soft tires almost add a bit of suspension. It's all a tradeoff - experiment and find out what works best for you!

The above applies to regular tube tires - tubeless tires are immune to pinch flats as there isn't a tube! Thus, you can run much lower tire pressures and enjoy increased traction without the risk of pinch flats. There is not as much variety with tubeless tires (but manufacturers are making more models tubeless) so you may not be able to find your favourite tire. Also, prices are higher and weight tends to be a bit higher, although this is also decreasing. Again, it's a tradeoff!
