Lake Superior Tour
Lake Superior Tour (A time to Remember)

So I found myself sitting waiting for
lunch at the husky in Nipigon questioning what the hell I was doing here. It
was myself, Gavin Grant, and Brent (the Kman) Krmpotich, no one was saying much
probably do to the burning in our legs and hunger in our bellies. And then it
started the Kman blew up saying what all of us were thinking. "This is
rediculous, what the hell are we doing, 300km a day for 6 days, this is the
french man's (andre's) tour and he isn't even here suffering with us. It went
on like this for a good 15min while we waited for our food. Food came and all
of a sudden it was quiet while we filled our faces with a double helping of
food topped off with desert. Ok we are almost ready to go and we look outside,
what would you know it is starting to rain and the wind is going 100km/h. I
should mention that this stop was after about 20km of ripped up road and
construction waits of up to 30min each, with waits like that drivers aren't the
nicest to cyclist. Never the less the rain let off to let us get on our bikes,
for a few short minutes anyway. i started riding and the rain came down, it was
so windy it felt like hail, All we could see was about 3ft in front of us.
I looked back and noticed that the guys were a little back so I stopped to see
what was up. Kman rolled up, not in the best mood to put it best. “This is stupid;
I’m ready to get on the greyhound. Wait until I see The French man, I might hit
him!!!
I suggested
we give it another half hour and see what happens, luckily the weather turned
and other than the headwinds we had a good ride. By the time we made it to Terrace Bay and checked into the hotel everyone
was burn, riding a bike was ok but our legs didn’t want to walk. we got off our
bikes and almost fell over. The bonus was that the Red Dog Inn had a restaurant
inside with a salad bar and great food. The Kman and I were the first to get in
there ready to demolish some food, and we did a good job. Didn’t sit down
straight the salad bar we went the waitress asked us if we needed anything else
and we just stood there open eyes and mouth staring back at here, incoherent!
After finishing the whole salad bar we all ordered a large
pizza each, Now that’s how we role.
When we
woke in the morning, both Brent and I realized that the poor attitude of the
day before could have had a lot to do with the Hangover we bought ourselves in Thunder Bay.
All in all
this was a great Ride, everyone had a good time and when we reached the store
looking back at the tour it was a blast.
I would recommend it to anyone, maybe take a bit longer, and
believe me I would. The shore line in Minnesota
was beautiful and the roads were great, even a bunch of great campgrounds to
choose from.
I leave you with a picture of our lunch in Montreal River,
I always forget that there isn’t a restaurant there anymore, Bu the best thing
about riding your bike is you can eat whatever you want.

Until next time
Keep the rubber side down
And thanks for reading
