Free Bike
May is 'go by bike month' in Sault Ste. Marie
From the
reduction of greenhouse gases, losing weight, saving money or simply
having fun, traveling by bike is the way to go.
May is Go By
Bike Month in Sault Ste Marie, a series of local events organized to
celebrate and encourage citizens to pump up their tires and get their
bikes on the road.
May 10 is Go By Bike Challenge at City Hall
where the Mayor and members of City Council are encouraged to leave
their cars at home and ride to the Council meeting.
A brief
media scrum will take place in front of city hall at 5:30 p.m.
As
an added incentive to encourage safe cycling, all Council members who
arrive by bike will be provided with flashing front and rear lights for
their bike ride back home, compliments of Vélorution.
During Go
By Bike Week - Saturday, May 8 to Saturday, May 15 - anyone who rides a
bike can submit their names to win an urban commuter bike (valued at
$500), donated by Velorution.
We also have another urban
commuter bike up for grabs for the person that can convince us they
really need it.
Send us a picture of your current bike along
with a short blurb describing why you’re in need of a new one.
Names
and photos of all participants will be published on Sootoday.com's
Green page and readers will have an opportunity to vote for who they
think deserves a sweet new ride.
E-mail us your name, pictures
and stories to: gobybike@shaw.ca (one entry per contest please).
Winners
will be announced at the end of the week.
We will also be
hosting a Go By Bike Party on May 29 at Vélorution to present the
winners with their prizes.
You can look forward to a BBQ,
refreshments and plenty of bike games.
