World Car Free Day

On September 22, cities around the world will celebrate World Car Free Day, and we would like to congratulate the city of Sault Ste Marie for undertaking one of, if not the largest per capita, non-motorized trail infrastructure project in the country.

The HUB trail is now well underway and should be completed by 2012.

The Finn Hill section was completed this summer and construction is currently underway on the McNabb Street and Third Line portion.

This fall we will see the start of new sections connecting the Wellington Square Mall to Bellevue Park, Fort Creek as well as the link between the Library and the old hospital.

By the time the whole route is completed, the trail will have a 22-kilometer circular trail connecting all the major areas of the city and people will be able to ride, walk, skate, ski, snowshoe or wheel chair on a beautiful car free trail.

This will have a huge impact on the health and well being on our citizens as well as a major tourist attraction and doctor magnet.

To celebrate the occasion on World Car Free Day, Velorution is sponsoring a ride along the newest section of the HUB trail starting at 6 p.m.

We will go down the trail to Finn Hill and back around via the Village Court link for a distance of approximately 5 kilometers.

Free refreshments and water bottles for all who show up car free and complete the trek will be provided.

Date: Tuesday, September 22 from 6-7 p.m.

Location: Velorution at the corner of Second Line and Old Garden River Road
