Jan Bikes Peru
If you ever have the chance to go to Peru, take it! It was one of the most scenic places I have ever been, and the mountain biking was terrific.
The altitude took some getting used to, I can’t remember the last time I used my small chain ring as much as I did on this trip.
Day one started at 4830 meters and descended into the Colca Canyon. Nothing like a 4 hour downhill ride to get the blood pumping. Our first day took us through the sacred valley, the ride started at 4000 meters and slowly made its way down until we ended at a campsite with hot springs, this was the only day that we got rained on.
Day two was a little more intense with a 5 hour cross country ride, on Inka and pre Inka trails. Thank goodness for the hot springs to loosen you up in the evening. From there we traveled to Puno to check out the floating villages on Lake Titti Kaka. Next stop, Cusco to check out Machu Pichu and get in 3 more days of mountain biking.
Day 3 was a beautiful xc ride with rolling hills and some stops at Inka ruins along the way. It was crazy to see so much history everywhere you look. There were spectacular views all around us. This ride ended with a short 14km downhill single track.
What a trip! I’m defiantly going back next year, if anyone wants to come along!
