In The Bike Lane

Andre has been very active lately lobbying for better cycling facilities in Sault Ste Marie.  We are currently seeing the construction of the Finn Hill section of the HUB trail.  We expect to see the continuation of this link south and east towards McNabb, South Market and Shannon Road next year and north towards the new hospital and west to Fort Creek in 2 years.  The whole 22 km trail is expected to be completed by 2012. 

Currently there is an Environmental Assessment study going on for the Great Northern Road corridor. We are forming a group of concerned citizens to press for inclusion of non-motorized modes of transportation in the study.  This is a very important time to get involved in the process.  The last time the city did this for Trunk Road, we managed to get the Cycling Master Plan updated.  With this study, we should be able to press for bike lanes on Queen Street.  If you wish to find out more and get involved, please email Andre at ariopel@shaw.ca
