Hub Trail:

After years of lobbying effort, we have finally convinced all of council, city staff and most of the city, that a non-motorized trail is a very progressive idea for our city.  About one month ago a few residents on Shannon Road opposed having the trail along their street and a majority of city council wanted a review before accepting the plan.  The spontaneous backlash from citizens and media was incredible.  Council and staff received about 3,000 emails and phone calls telling them to get the trail built.  Seeing the great tide of support, council unanimously supported the trail on Shannon and took an even greater step to do everything possible to get the whole trail done in 2 years time.  This summer a large section will be built connecting Finn Hill to the end of Northern Avenue.  This will be a paved 3m wide trail!!  The extension of the boardwalk, for those who have not yet been there, has also been a huge success.  I expect that when this trail is complete, we will see a dramatic increase in the number of cyclists in our community which will help on road cycling also.
